GOT BLUETOOTH?

_____________________________________________
ENGROSSED SUBSTITUTE SENATE BILL 5037
_____________________________________________
AS AMENDED BY THE HOUSE
Passed Legislature - 2007 Regular Session
State of Washington 60th Legislature 2007 Regular Session
By Senate Committee on Transportation (originally sponsored by
Senators Eide, Weinstein, Murray, Berkey, Regala, Rockefeller,
Kauffman, Keiser, Spanel, Jacobsen and Kohl-Welles)
READ FIRST TIME 02/22/07.
AN ACT Relating to the use of a wireless communications device while operating a moving motor vehicle; adding a new section to chapter 46.61 RCW; creating a new section; prescribing penalties; and providing an effective date.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:NEW SECTION.
Sec. 1. The use of wireless communications devices by motorists has increased in recent years. While wireless communications devices have assisted with quick reporting of road emergencies, their use has also contributed to accidents and other
mishaps on Washington state roadways. When motorists hold a wireless communications device in one hand and drive with the other, their chances of becoming involved in a traffic mishap increase. It is the legislature's intent to phase out the use of hand-held wireless communications devices by motorists while operating a vehicle.

WELL FOLKS...TODAY'S THE DAY!!!

Ok...So I am not one to complain. (Ok you can stop laughing now)
But how the heck am I supposed to wear this thing behind my ear AND wear my sunglasses?(which are prescription BTW) I feel like I have to choose between following the law, or being able to see and drive safely. Which is also what a good law abiding citizen should do. I agree that talking on the phone while your driving can be distracting. I certainly agree that texting while your driving is a little involved. But if your very talented....ok. Ok. I get it.
But are we in danger of taking this a little too far? What about the lady who was painting her finger nails at the stop sign yesterday morning? The Lipstick? The Masscara? How about the Big Mac and Fries? Or Heaven Forbid.....The Venti Iced Caramel Macchiato? I've gone too far havn't I? Soon...if this keeps up, there will be no more drive thru at fast food resturants. Then they will not allow you to listen to music in the car and Syrius Sattelite Radio will be a thing of the past. In the future...you won't be allowed to talk while driving and then all autos will only be able to seat 1 person.
...NOW HOW DO YOU WORK THIS THING ANYHOW?

I do NOT want one of those things! Derek keeps saying we have to get some but do you know how many people I've made fun of while they talked on those? I'm going to have to eat some humble pie now. But seriously...people look like they're talking to themselves with those! The only car accident I was in was caused by turning around to get a binky for a crying baby when I was a nanny.

LOL!!!! Pam, you make me laugh so much! Only you would post the ENTIRE law and then comment about it! HA! I just love you. And, I agree with Dawn when she said people look like they are talking to themselves!!!! So true. This one time in Fred Meyer, I thought this girl asked me if I wanted to go to Starbucks - I blushed a little becasue she was so hot and said, "sure," and she just smiled and kept walking.

My phone is so old I can't even get a bluetooth for it. Do you think I could use that as an excuse?

On the other hand, how silly do we look as we're singing our guts out in the car? hmmm?? Same thing really, and how will anyone know the difference? Look at it this way... when you wear your lawful bluetooth, you can leer at the person who has been pulled over for NOT having one. Just drive by and think.."what a loser, they were so concerned about wearing that thing with thier sunglasses, and now look, they've been pulled over!" hahahah Oh Chad, keep the faith! ;) Delena, get a coat hanger and make your own bluetooth. Just put the wire behind your ear, and talk away. LOL
