DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS

I had the Wonderful pleasure of visiting my dear friends in Dallas this past weekend. It was a Whirlwind trip of Fun, Laughs, Food, and of course Shopping.
My friends Barb and Sharon had come to Washington to suprise me on my Birthday last month and Barb finished off their visit by offering to use her Airline miles to fly me to Dallas so we could all 3 go to the State Fair of Texas again. We went 2 years ago, and if you ask Dan or Kristine, they will tell you that I talk about it all the time. I will upload and post more pictures of our time there later this weekend. But for now, I wanted to let you know how my trip went and have included some pics from my phone.
First, I arrived to DFW about 10 at night and Barb had a hand made sign (a piece of notebook paper written with lipstick) that said "Welcome Pam". I should have known what a hysterical time I was in for. We stayed up until well after 2 am talking in the Hottub and shared a bottle or 3 of wine. Then up the next morning to head to the Huge Fair. This involves a Car ride to the Train and then a Bus ride to the Fairgrounds.

We tried to eat our way thru the Fair for starters. Seems as if they Fry EVERYTHING at the Fair. From Fried Lattes ??? to Fried Snickers, Oreos, Twinkies and even Cheesecake! They also like to batter and deep fry things like Grilled Cheese and PB&J sandwiches as well as Chicken Fried Bacon?! Goodnes. I had None of those items but did have my share of Other greasy foods: Tornado Taters,Onion straws, and a Corn Dog. We went to the L'oreal makeover building and spent almost 2 hours there. (no wise-crack remarks)

Barb and I had gotten brave enough to ride the "Texas Star" but the line was wrapped around the midway and it would have taken forever.
One of the highlights for me is to see "Big Tex". He is an Icon there. Every 15 minutes or so, he Greets Fair-goers. "Howdy Folks...Welcome to the Great State Fair of Texas!" I Love him.

After our long day at the fair we went to this Country Dance Hall that was Huge (as are All things in Texas I hear) Instead of a Disco Ball...there was a Glitter covered Saddle! There was even a Mechanical Bull for people to ride. I was in awe of the entire spectacle, but did not even come close to considering riding it. The dance floor was kind of like a lazy river with people Two-stepping around it. It was just like a scene out of "Urban Cowboy". Sharon's husband called it "Belt Buckle Polishing" Goodness Again.
The following morning we met up with most of the gals from our "Girls Cruise" There were 7 of the 9 of us there as 2 live on the East Coast. We had Brunch at Willhoites which is a Biker Bar and it was So much fun! Barb and I (along with Sharon's Sister Diane) then went to see "Menopause the Musical" I must say that I do not think I have ever laughed so hard in all my life. If you get a chance to see this, you Must. Even if you are not at that...er hummm...Age..you probably KNOW someone who is. They have taken all these oldie songs and changed the words. Such as; "I'm having a Hot flash...a Tropical hot Flash", "Change Change Change" and these lyrics 'It's a sign of the times...when your roots are gray, and your mem'ry's shorter. It's a sign of the times...when your hourglass shape becomes a glass of water.'There was also some Beach Boy song "Good Vibrations" (whatever That means) Anyhow, it was an Awesome Play!
My Trip to Dallas would not have been complete without a Day of Shopping. Where else but Dallas (or E-bay) could you get a Huge purse complete with a Cadillac Emblem on the front. I mean WHO needs a purse like this.

Apparantly someone named Pam from East Wenatchee does. Look for it on my arm as we get closer to Christmas.
I Love Dallas/Texas and keep trying to talk Dan into Retiring there in a few years. It would put me so much closer to those Cruise ships I Love so much. My friends Barb and Sharon found this sign at the fair and I texted it to Dan but he just said "Nice try girls...No way." Oh well. LOL

Thanks for stopping by to check out my less than Dull life. I missed you guys. Come back in a few days to see a link to more pics of the whole trip.

Your friends sound like they are so much fun. I lived in Dallas for a summer...even went to one of those line dancing clubs with the mechanical bulls once. ;) Were you shopping at the Galleria? I love the purse!

I did not make it to the Galleria this time. I got the purse at Sam Moon. We also shopped downtown Grapevine. Some quaint shops. The cute shops had several items we had seen at Sam Moon (and bought) but they had about a 25-50% mark up.

Oh! I love that purse. You DO NOT need that purse. Give it up. It will out do your hair or something. C'mon. Hand it over.
